Replacing fuel (petrol) hose from injector rail to injector

2.1 DJ (Probably going to make a bit of a ar$e of myself here but my eyes aren't what they used to be)

Replacing my fuel hoses as one of the old ones split. Have the necessary hose and was intending to replace the very short sections from the injector rail to the injectors along with all the other hoses in the engine bay, however although one end has jubilee type clamps, the hose at the injector end goes into a sort of fitment I haven't seen before and have no idea how to remove (if it can be) or what to replace it with. Can fuel hose clips be used in their place and how the hell do you get them off in the first place?

Loathe to remove the actual injectors themselves and was hoping to just be able to remove the hose sections and renew.

cut the metal ring off with wire cutters and the pipe pulls off. then use standard fuel pipe clips. it's just a barbed spigot underneath.

Ahh excellent, love a simple solution! Lets just hope my cakhandedness doesn't make a pigs ear of it.

Thanks muchly  :ok

you may need to cut the hose as spigot is barbed , just be careful not to score the spigot too much it's aluminium so cut gently repeatedly so you cut just a bit at a time.

I too was sore afraid of scoring the ribbing or breaking off the spigot so I used a 1/2" electric finger file to abrade through one of the ears of the factory fitted double ear “O” Clips then sliced away the rubber pipe rather than cut into it.
No fire hazard if you take care with the finger file.

Typically I don't seem to have the "double ear “O” Clips" as mentioned by Mr Bean. I have little bowl shaped pieces of metal that went around the base of the spigot. I am not even sure they were compressed tight on the hose like double ear “O” Clips do so now my question is (somewhat prompted by having hose clips too small to go round the hose once its on the spigot) is do the hoses actually need a hose clip or is the spigot sufficient to secure the hose on its own?

Picture is a bit pants but you can imagine what they looked like in one piece

Having now removed the old hose from the other side I think its obvious these firments weren't holding the hose at all and the spigot does all the securing that's needed. Maybe it's different on different year vans but I really don't think there is any point removing the ones on the this side. Or does anyone know otherwise?

I think you would be mad not to fit a fuel clip. I'd take those bits of metal off or the clip won't fit well.

I see your point about the hose clip not fitting with the bowl shaped fitment in situ but my point is if the bowl shaped fitment didn't secure the fuel hose in the first place then the spigot alone must have been sufficient and there is no need for further measures such as a fuel hose clip at the injector end at all.
Where are the pictures from? Were they taken by you or off the web?

The metals rings should crimp onto the hose, the ones I took off mine did anyway and they were ancient.

They didn't appear to be crimped either to be honest and weren't tight around the hose, it's almost like they are simply there as something for the end of the hose to bed into. This will actually make for a good little experiment, I will replace all the hoses tomorrow without any additional measures at the injector ends and see what happens when I fire it up (taking suitable precautions obviously). I do know that the short sections I have simply pushed over the spigots already aren't going anywhere as I have tried pulling them off, it's just a case of whether they leak. If they do leak I can just fit the hose clips.

Watch this space!!

If the metal rings aren't to secure the fuel hose onto the injector, then what are they there for? Surely it's not worth the risk for the sake of a few hose clamps.

They prevent the hose expanding too much as it swells to attempt to ride over the barbs on the spigot when the hose is pulled.

Nobody knows how Bosch fitted the hose they may have used some process to bond it but general common sense says fit a hose clip. I can't believe you are bothering arguing about it. Don't fit one if you don't want to but please don't promote such bad practice as others may copy you.

you may not find out they are leaking until you see your engine on fire. even if they don't leak now they may leak in a years time, or when they get very hot or very cold, sorry but it's not a good idea.

yes it's my picture hence why it says itchyfeet on it.
