1.9 wbx DF engine code timing

Post by pauljvw »

1984 1.9 wbx westy pop DF engine code.
Hi, anyone know the correct method of checking timing on the 1.9 DF,looks very different to the DG in the Haynes manual but when the garage has done it they have just carried out a basic check.I think its still a bit out as its tending to cut out at junctions etc when its warm, cheers

You need a timing light to check the timing ideally, it should be very similar process as a DG. Cutting out when it's warm might be because it's running lean when not on choke. You might have to get someone with an exhaust gas analyser to set the idle air/fuel mixture on your carb.

DF timing is unusual in that it's set with vacuum connected, to 5° AFTER TDC. This is because it has a dual vac dizzy, and the retard function knocks about 12° off at idle. Also remember that the idle stabiliser box should be bypassed by joining the plugs together.

Thanks for your advice guys, I'll now try and get the garage(not T3 specialist) to try again in the proscribed method!
