Oil/air breather tower

Post by JonathanR »

I’m going to be like a London bus. No posts for several years then 3 at once.

I’m getting oil in the air filter box so thought I would clean out the tower. Held on by 4 studs. I failed to remove it. Wiggled and tapped it but could not get it free. Does it just pull off. In that the van is off on its travels for 2 weeks I sprayed everything in WD40 and will have a second attempt when it comes back from the surfing beaches.

My concern is that one stud came out and the shaft is quite rusted and thin and I don’t want to snap them. Where can I get the studs part number and where would I buy them. My VW dealer rarely seems to have any parts for my van.

Many thanks

VW dealerships stopped supporting these vans years ago. Try your local nut and bold supplier they probably be able to help with that part.

I would be inclined to just buy some M6 threaded rod with correct pitch from internet or B&Q. 200mm length delivered for about £5.
If B&Q take a cleaned up nut with you. If it run smoothly down the thread its good to buy.
Just dont overtighten on rebuild. I think the tower has a torque setting too
