Gearstick extension question

Post by mshaw1980 »

Hello

I have just bought one of these and after fitting it does feel great to have the stick in more easy reach. However I note that in 4th and 5th gear plane that the stick is a bit close to your clutch leg, in fact 5th gear the gearknob is touching my leg. All my gears select fine but just wondering if it would be worth readjusting the pinch bolt spline over one notch as even though my gears select ok (linkage has had full rebuild) I dont know if it could be adjusted better. Thanks

i fitted a short shift kit after i extended the stick, reduces stick travel in all directions and much nicer to drive, in my opinion.

I have a shortshift kit but once fitted I have never been able to get the linkage setup correct so have removed it

oh odd, mine needed no adjustment to linkage.  is the stick bent? maybe more evident with the extension

I think my five speed must have the same or similar lurgy. Although It doesn't irritate me as I reach down and pat it towards my left leg for reassurance that  I am in fifth gear - fourth and top being fairly close in ratios and all. I developed this habit before I fitted  the rev counter as I can hardly hear the engine tucked away at the rear

My gearstick isnt bent, its a brand new solid stick which was purchased with the gear linkage rebuild kit. Would like to get the short shifter working but didnt want to make further adjustments after getting my gears spot on.

So is this the norm with gearstick extensions? 5th gear more or less digs in your leg?

Do you want to make a dramatic positive change - buy one of Silver Bullets gearsticks.

I've got one in my camper and it's fantastic.
I drove my Pritsche last week with the standard stick, it's like stirring porridge.

My gearshift is good after the rebuild...for an old van. At least I can find all gears without porridge stirring. I got the gearshift extension as I am fitting saab seats so slightly further to reach for gear changes
