My van has a 4 speed gearbox with a 1.6 non turbo engine so, it’s sluggish to say the least!
However, I have a DW gearbox in the shed and was thinking about fitting that so I have (potentially) better gearing for cruising along and I’ve found locally a 1.9d polo and was wondering whether that combo would get me pootling along at the speed limit in comfort?
I’m not into making it into the world’s fastest brick, I just want something that won’t struggle up to the speed limit and if on the motorway, will happily sit there at 65-70 mph and sound ‘comfortable’?
Is a DW box with a 1.9d engine a useable combo?

DW is a good 1.9 box, it has the proper 0.765 ratio 5th gear, you might have to use 4th a bit on longer hill climbs but otherwise it should work well as long as the engine is healthy and fuelled well, you might have to experiment with the pump timing a little to get the best out of it
