So I did another flush yesterday, removed main hoses from stat housing and flushed till fresh water flowing through..

Did the same with the dodgey looking pipe with the temp sensor in, that need tidying up at some point.

Hot flow through the bleed rail also.

Bleeded it, and left it overnight went for a drive a junction up motorway and back today.. Seemed OK 🤷‍♂️

The expansion tank is filling up still, is this normal?
Not to the point its overflowing though..

Im going to take it to work which is a good 20mile run tonight.. Fingers crossed!

Yes :ok

Coolant gets hot, it expands, so the coolant from the header tank overflows into the expansion tank.

When the coolant cools, it contracts and the coolant that was previously dumped into the expansion tank is sucked back, meaning no air in the cooling system, but more space and air in the expansion tank.

Have another read through the Brickwerks thread, it'll make much more sense now :)

Back on the original stat too ?

It's looking good, she got to work and sat around 95-98 ish (according to the aftermarket gauge that is). A touch hot.. Always used to be at an indicated 92 ish.
But no overheating with it showing way over 100. :D

Vw gauge reading just under the LED, and no flashing which is a first.. As its flashed intermittently since Ive had the van.

I'm guessing it's all good as its a 24 mile trip over to work.
Yeh back on the stat I took out 🤷‍♂️

Sounds like a result.

Temp gauge should be central, pretty much on the LED. It can go warmer, and then the fan should cut in and bring it back down.

Get another thermostat from Brickwerks if you think yours is on its way out.
