How much more power do you reckon you get from these starting from a factory 79hp?

Well it's a partially educated guesstimation, but considering increasing the compression ratio on the WBX 2.1 from 9:1 to 10.5:1 gave a claimed 17bhp increase from an otherwise mechanically identical engine, I would say that you might reasonably expect 10-15% more power, but to release it you may have to run on 98RON petrol and advance the timing 3-5°.

I'd be very very happy even with the upgrades to have it back to 79HP.

I plan when I have it rebuilt to put it on a rolling road and get the twin carbs tuned up and running correctly.

We shall see then

W-O-W, that's a lot. I wish the incompetent mechanic where I brought my van, would have proposed me this option.

Good progress made this week and especially today.

All new valves and valve guides all lapped in.

New AA high compression pistons and liners fitted.

Started the reassemblely of the tin ware and ancillary items.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get into static valve timing and maybe a bench start of the engine and check for compression.

That dizzy looks ripe for a Powerspark retrofit...

I am indeed keeping them. I'd like to be able to use it over the winter months I know it might not have any effect but sure.

I am indeed missing tin ware. I am missing the push rod tube tins for both sides. Never knew they were missing until I did the rebuild. On the look out for a pair if you know where I could get them

Is there much of an improvement in replacing the dizzy?

Another good day.

Got all ancillarys back on the engine all brand new fuel hose with correct clamps.

Have changed some vacuum hose to newer one as there were some cracks.

New crankshaft seal went in the old one was barely a seal at all.

Preformed a compression test 130 on each cylinder I'm quite happy.

Brought the engine on a journey to the van itself and we actually got it all connected up.

Tomorrow will entail connect the gear linkages, throttle linkages and remaining heater pipes etc.

Hopefully I might even get her running.

Spent yesterday evening sorting idling issues etc.

Was running very well and we couldn't get it to idle right. Back to basics and a school boy error 3 and 4 leads on the wrong way around Doh!!

We got her running well took her for a spin to just get home and found an electrical connector broke which limped in the driveway.

Resouldered her into position to find the idle stabilisation unit leaking petrol. It was taken apart found to be faulty and dealt with by making it fully redundant with silicone.

Took her for a spin this morning after the repairs and took her up and down a few hills. The difference in power is very noticable it really wants to go when given the boot.

Going to take it easy do about 500km test kilometres then drop the oil, check tappets and change filter.

Very pleased with the work and will report back with some good news hopefully.

Just back from a trip on the Wild Atlantic way on the west of Ireland from Spideal one night and Fanore in county Clare last night.

A great challenge for the first trip since the rebuild of the engine. Pleased to say no drips of oil which is unexpected for a vehicle of this year. More importantly I feel some power has been regained especially on the hills it feels.

I will report back with the MPG when i do a few tanks. Currently have 360km done with well over quarter of a tank left.

I would previously have gotten 450km to a tank. I'm optimistic I might get a little more now.

It's great to be back on the road again!
