Coolant Hose Spec

Post by Mark S »

1.9 TD AAZ (was 1.6 D CS).

Looking to replace the small-diameter hose between the blue 'dalek' cap atop the header tank, and the expansion tank behind the rear flap.  I cannot find anyone selling one so am proposing to buy a length of hose off the reel and a pair of jubilee clips.  Any tips on type, diameter and length of hose needed?  (Looks like about a metre of 6mm ID but helpful if someone knows in more detail).  Many thanks.

It’s not under pressure so correct hose without jubilee clips is fine

Thanks for this.  I'll get some 7mm in then.  Take the point about low pressure but may as well whack on a pair of JCs while I'm at it, as they cost pence and guard against any leakage of fluid, particularly at the bottom of the expansion tank.

Stick Jubilee clips on and you start creating problems right from the go - use proper clips but they are not necessary. There is next to no pressure.

I'm not clear about the difference between jubilee clips and 'proper' clips, nor why using the former should create problems.  There are clips of some description on the old pipe and that has not shown any problems in the 18 years I have had the bus, so I may as well just refit those, job done.

Jubilee clips tighten unevenly, squashing into a more oval shape, especially bad on plastic in the small sizes. You are welcome to use them and I promise that I won't say " I told you so" when you report coolant loss and blown engine beetling down the motorway.
Your choice of course if you know better.
