Hi Martin,

Dizzy posted out chap - i thought i'd post up on here as i'm finding all my message notifications are currently going into junk. The dizzy has a vacuum advance on it as well.

If you need to test the vacuum advance on your current one, there's some details on what you can do to test here:

That's how I did mine. just check it pulls, holds and returns fully. mine was very lazy, had a pin hole in the diaphragm.

Sucked on this, nothing happened? Is something supposed to rotate or something?

yeah if you look in the dizzy at the bottom there is a plate which rotates slightly due to a linkage from that unit, that advances the spark as revs/vacuum increases.

What a pain the backside Martin.  Good call from Wilbur there - that looks like the original one in the photo.

Stalling after throttle release

Post by DoubleOSeven »

Put old dizzy back on. No change, wouldn’t start. Changed the coil, started straight away.
So this coil I bought not long ago, checks out in the primary and secondary ohms but doesn’t work.

I wonder if the broken rotor arm killed it.

What coil was it that you brought previously Martin?  I'd go for a Bosch one if possible as i've used a non-Bosch one before that broke down within a short space of time.  If it cools down they tend to work ok but then as they get warm they break down again and then the bus conks out - if that's the case, the coil will usually then be hot to touch.

E D I T - just seen that you have the Bosch one.  Might be worth seeing if they can exchange it.

Sorry. Overlapped above E D I T. Both Bosch. Old coil back in and it’s running again. So, fingers crossed.

Summary; the coil & intermittent spark and then as 300CE said, when it cooled the other day it allowed me to get home. All makes sense. I’ll test my old one for temp. next few weeks, but fairly confid....no won’t say it; we’ll see.
