Bike Can Exhaust for CU?

Post by TheDocmeister »

The silencer has gone on my 2.0 Aircooled camper, so I priced a new one... :rofl
I then did the sensible thing and hit the search button!

I'm liking the idea of Covkid's big bike can on EMPI style headers solution, especially if I fitted these:
https://www.coolairvw.co.uk/product/ac251704/
That would give me a stainless header/alloy (titanium  ?) after the heat exchangers system for way less than £200 - if I got hold of a decent secondhand can.

So has anybody gone down this route on a CU? Any thoughts on the quality of the SSP headers?
The way things are at the moment, I won't be able to justify £500 on a straight fit stainless setup, but as I see it the SSP/bike can wouldn't cost me much more than a standard box and should last much longer. Am I missing something?

I have bike can on my early DG motor. Same fitment as CU.
I have Empi Single Quiet Pack headers. Similar to the ones you are looking at but mine are not stainless. With an early Honda CBR 900 Fireblade stainless can.
Bolt holes line up spot on.Similar to this one on Ebay.
Found i had to fit a slip in baffle (drilled out a bit to get the sound i wanted)

Well, after winning a Suzuki GSXR 750 can this morning, it looks like I'm joining the bike can crew - all for a massive £11.50! "Only used for the yearly trip to the MOT station" I just need to decide on headers now (and get the old one off!).

Thanks for your reply Hubcaps, that Fireblade can looks very good on the back of your van. No cutting of the valance that I notice. I don't know anything about bikes, so interesting to find out you can play with the baffles. There was a mention somewhere of droning around 30mph or going up hills I think it was, but if you can potentially tune out those resonances then jobs a good 'un.

Yeah, had to put a baffle in mine as it was a bit too loud under load.
Aftermarket cans fit inside rear valance fine, Stock cans are a bit too long and much heavier.
The baffle made it a bit too quiet so i cut the end off the baffle and opened up the holes a bit.
just nice now.

This kind of baffle. Takes seconds to fit/remove.
I used slightly longer bolts to fit mine (it came with bike fitting bolts).
Be careful not to over tighted them as you will strip alloy thread in can.
I nipped mine tight using locktite.
