Fitting Powerflex Bushes To PAS Rack

Post by maxstu »

So l have the heritage style new steering rack bushes now in my sticky hands (thank you B/werks) l had a preliminary look under camper. Ive changed non PAS before, but this looks far more challenging!
The PAS pipes to rack are all solid pipes. So unlike non PAS its not a simple case of unbolting x4 and pulling rack away from chassis to remove old and insert Powerflex alternatives. I just cant see how the rack will give enough to fit the bushes on the back side of rack. It might even be easier to fit original type instead... since they can be pushed in from the front.
Not sure where to start. But it looks as if removing track end rod bushes from steering knuckle may help? Or the steering rod to coupling?
Any pointers from others' on here please.
Regards
Stuart

Had a look on Samba. Boy, that site is difficult to navigate on my old phone! Kept freezing up.
Nothing found. Surely someone here has taken on this task?

I changed the bushes on my PAS rack a long time ago, I remember it being tight, but not impossible to do without disconnecting anything.

I reckon you just loosen all four bolts and do it. Maybe support the rack with some tie wraps so it doesn't stress the pipes.
