Hi
I have a 4 speed box on my 1.9 TD engine it is from a Mk1 Golf
If I change it to a 5 speed gearbox is there a lot of changes that I have to do to make it fit or will it slot in.
Also which gearbox is best.

Re: 4 speed gearbox
how can you have a golf mk 1 gearbox which is front wheel drive transverse mounted ina T25 ? 1 reverse gear and 4 reverse
If you have a 1.9 TD engine then it didn't come from a MK1 golf, biggest Mk1 engine was the CY 1.6TD
If you have a 4 speed gearbox from a T25 I suggest that you crawl under the van and find the code for the gearbox which is stamped on the almost bottom on the left side 4" below the reverse switch housing on a watercooled 4 speed T25/T3 gearbox, armed with that knowledge you can get a sensible answer to the q.
might also be worth finding out exactly what engine is fitted, does it a have a Turbo, is it 1.9, that'll be an AAZ not fitted to gold before November 1991 right at the end of Mk2, mostly fitted to Mk3
