Adding PAS

Post by DoubleOSeven »

I see the steering racks on sale from time to time but wondered what else do you need? Where does the hydraulic feed come from?

Pump, res, pipes, front struts and rack and pulley . More expensive than electric, more work but better in every way

Agree.^^^^ Original PAS is way superior to add on electric. But the cost will be close to a grand. Electric PAS is a good budget alternative.

Yeh, fitted mine a couple of years ago.

You can buy the front-to-rear hydraulic hoses from Brickwerks.
Need a different fan belt and pulley with an additional groove if I remember correctly.

Then obviously PS rack, and pump.

Might be something else I have forgotten.

Right hand side of the engine bay when looking down at it from rear of van.
I could try and get a photo later this week if needed.
( van is in garage getting a restoration )

Perhaps your first port of call? Mick will likely have most parts

Do you HAVE to or are they just good to have , anybody done a one with one without experiment, what’s the actual difference in the hubs, racks etc, non anecdotal replies preferred

I’m pretty sure you do have to, as the rack doesn’t go as far each way , the standard stub axles don’t have the stop in the correct place , where as the pas ones do have and stop the rack going past the end ...

One more thing I remember, is that the reservoir goes into a bracket, which is then welded in place.
Make sure you get it.

There was a chap in the for sale section I bought mine from - NWT25 I think?
His name was Mick or Nick, and will send all the bits as one order.

That’s what I did anyway

The PAS stub axle has the hole for the tie rod end in another position. The non pas has the hole closer to the end.
