Hi,

It starts straightaway from cold, pulls through the rev range (it's an auto). I think the engine is a bit lumpy from cold, though.

Stoopid question but is the choke coming off? Mine broke and the choke flap wasn't attached to the mechanism.

Regarding your question about coils....I had one breakdown on a M/C it was fine from start up but would show symptoms
of fuel starvation, miss and fart about halfway to work, I couldn't work it out as plenty of fuel in tank...thought fuel tap was blocked with rust
or pipe had collapsed, was an old HD so no fancy fuel pumps, anyway turns out the coil was braking down due to the heat generated within it. Coil looked fine from the outside ....so what might test ok from cold or warm might not be ok when hot. Try testing the coil when it happens see if the measurements are good then.

I've have a new Hall sensor (hopefully) arriving tomorrow. I've also managed to dig out a good used but working coil so can try that

Change them one at a time otherwise you won't know what cured it ( if one does ).

I'm going to change the coil first as I'm waiting for the Hall sensor to turn up in the post. I will give the van a test drive before swapping the Hall sensor to see if it has fixed the problem.

Can you change the Hall senor in-situ or does the distributor have to be on the bench?

The distributor is going to have to come off the engine as I can't get the the dissy cover off. I've not taken I a dissy off the van yet so I'm reading up on how to do it will return to it tomorrow.

I've finally had time to replace the hall sensor. Everything is now back in and the van now won't start, even with Easy Start!!!

I presume I've knocked the timing out when putting the distributor back in, despite being careful.

Now I've never used a timing gun before, what mark do you use on a T25, the TDC mark or BTDC?

I will have a check in the morning.

As the van was starting fine from cold before, I'd just assumed it was timing related.

Yes we do have a spark, surely it's the timing now?

Did you mark the distributor position before removing it?

Changing the hall sensor will probably have altered the timing, even if the clamp position hasn't moved. You'll need to time it again, which is simple with a strobe.

If you mark the distributor position before removing, hopefully you'll have the timing near enough to start the engine after replacing
