T25 1.6D easy to stall, no low rpm torque

I have a 5 speed dog leg and you have to push down and across for 1st and reverse. 1st to 2nd takes a bit of getting used to but easy enough after a while.

OK so maybe it was meant to be like that. I'm going to investigate the linkages and the lever and see what's happening. My understanding is though that if it's working properly we shouldnt have push down to get into 1st

I never had to push down for 1st on my 5 speed box. If you do need to it's because of the 4 speed linkage in the box under the lever I am given to understand.

Just been out to check and I dont have to push down to get into1st or reverse, mind you I've only had the van 5yrs.
