I'm presently in the process of refurbing my gear change mechanism and have found mention in the wiki of removing the lockout stop from the base of the lever to ease selection of reverse gear. Is this an advisable action?
And whilst I am drawing on your knowledge, do I need to shovel loads of thick black grease in there, or is a judicious smear of waterproof grease sufficient?
