sump plug not tightening

hi everyone just about to do an oil change and my sump plug is not tightening just spinning and now i cannot remove it. carnt seem to get anything behind it for leverage,any ideas,cheers dave :ok

Oh dear, sounds like you have crossed / stripped the threads.

Stop using big tools with loads of leverage, one method is to get a fine screwdriver between the head of the bolt and the sump, try to exert some downward pressure and at the same time gently unscrew the sump plug, a spanner may work better than a socket, if you can get it in.

ps, just clarify if you are removing the sump plug to drain the oil, or refitting the sump plug prior to filling

It' a matter of pulling and turning mole grips across the flats pulling down and turning.
You will then either have to cut an oversized thread, kit are available with the tap and oversize plug or fit a universal sump plug (Don't unscrew them all the way to get the oil out or the legs come off).

Hope you get it out ok, I am almost at the same situation as you, dodgy thread slight drip, but mine does back out, though does need to be re-cored out bigger as not sure how many wind out's the thread got left!
Going forward a torque wrench, is a must in these instances.
