2E3 Carb questions

Post by maxstu »

Question 1,
Which way do l turn choke spring body on carb to reduce action and reduce time on choke?
Question 2,
There's a number on side of carb cam, where throttle cable terminates.
One on my carb reads 60. Yet l have a spare 2E3 in garage with 58 on it. What do these numbers mean?
Regards
Stuart

there are different cams depending on which transmission, almost of them take the same one but the auto one is different. If you check the actual carb number eg 025 129 015 M you'll be able to find out which is which, the auto carb is jetted differently as well

it's probably a radius measurement ie 60mm or 58mm but which is which I don't know

Cheers Aidan,
I recall now you mention it. The reference 60 came from 2.1DJ carb. Whilst the 58 is from an early 1.9DG. Both 5 speed gearboxes.

My poor prose!
Im messing about with 2.1 carb'd engine. Not DJ.
Initially camper came to me with locked 1.9 engine and early cooling system. So l fitted a spare 2.1 l had complete with carb and exhaust.
The 1985 1.9 DG engine had the 58 cable cam
The 1987 2.1 (ex DJ) carb is fitted with number 60 cable cam.

Stuart what is the VW number on the carb, next to the fuel return pipe
eg. 025 129 015 M it's the letter at the end that identifies which carb it is and if it isn't an 025 number then carb isn't originally from a T25, could be from a polo or something else

suffix H is late (1986 model year onwards) 2wd standard 1.9 manual carb so that's probably the difference
upto 1985 the engines weren't as clean at higher revs as 1986 on when the emmisions regs that VW were cheating on with the modern diesels came in so as well as the jetting it looks like they changed the cam too
If you swapped them (the cam assemblies) over you might find performance either diminished or improved but you may well not be able to tell the difference

I would guess the carb was made on Thursday 10 August 1989
