More maintenance work.

Post by kevtherev »

So to continue the major overhaul that the van is having, now that the engine is running sweetly, I turn my attention to the front shock absorbers & spring clean up.
The shocks are still working after 32 years but I doubt very much they are still doing the same job when first fitted.

The rears were replaced earlier this year and you could feel the transformation in cornering.
So having saved up I have bought some OEM units from Brickwerks.
I also intend to correct the Autosleeper lean with some spring shims, at the same time.
Some polybushes and rubber bushes, camber, castor and wheel alignment straight after.

Watching with interest - I’ll need to tackle this job myself before long.

Thanks. In my case, I'm hoping to tackle creaks and groans coming from all four corners. I'll need new trailing arms soon, since one of mine had to be patched for the last MOT, so new bushes as part of that job should hopefully cure the noises from the rear.

But my front suspension is a lot more noisy, and to the uninitiated (me) it seems more complex than the rear, with more bushes, and more adjustments. It'll be good to watch someone else tackle this.

never really noticed the 'Autosleeper lean' on my van will have to have a good look at it, it has been lowered and the previous owner had all the suspension work done at Brickwerks so maybe it was sorted there but will keep an eye on this interesting post as well, keep up the good work Kev !!
