4 speed box with 5 speed control

Post by badgerfax »

I am having difficulty selecting 2nd gear especially since replacing the 2 nylon bushes & the uj in the linkage.

I have also renewed the onion.

What's odd with my van is that the selector controls are the 5 speed type but the box is a 4 speed that has recently been renovated by Aidan

The selector is the only part that I have yet to look at, I am wondering if it would be best to replace with 4 speed type.

Any ideas gratefully received

Do you have a 5 speed gear lever and 5 speed linkage bars ?

My camper was 5 speed, the 5 speed box is with Aidan , I fitted a spare 4 speed I had, didnt change anything else
It works fine ( as long as I remember it's not a 5 speed and don't try and select the dog leg 1st at busy junctions ) :rofl

The linkages are old and needs refurb , which I have all the parts for , but won't do until I have my 5 speeder back from the depths of wales

Not sure on the actual gear lever just know the gubbins in the greasy box are 5 speed type mated to a 4 speed box.

The van is an 84 and has the main linkages without any bellows/gaitors over the bushes

the 2nd gear is a bit of a dog leg action to select.
Most difficult when changing down at speed, say when you are approaching a round about from doing dual carriageway speeds.
