Just checked again for a spark, definately sparking although spark was orange.

Is it possible to check that the coil is receiving enough voltage? I wonder if there is a bad earth somewhere.

Also is there a test for the ignition amplifier?

Tested the ignition amplifier (TCI control unit) as per the tests found via this link: http://syncrosport.com/info/manual/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

All seems good there. Tested the resistance on my spare coil and the one fitted to the van:

spare older coil
0.9 ohms
2.88k ohms

newer coil
0.8 ohms
4.17k ohms

Both appear outside range for primary and the newer one outside the range for secondary.

Any thoughts? Although I am getting a spark could it be the spark is too weak?

Cheers

Leads, coil to distributor possibly if you've got a weak spark on all plugs?

Cheers mate, tried different leads. This one has really got me stumped!!

Are you still hovering Sarran? I could do with some of your Aircooled Jedi words of wisdom! :-)

Fitted high quality new HT leads, new coil, new plugs, new ignition amp, rotor arm and dizzy cap. Still not firing up. Getting 12v at the coil. Clean the battery earth strap and the strap to the gearbox.

Running out of ideas and patience!

Managed to get it to fire up. Played with the timing, although don't see how this could have changed. Aligned engine to TDC, rotor arm aligned with notch in dizzy. Tried to fire so I would turn the dizzy slightly anti-clockwise (when viewed from above), kept adjusting until it fired up. Only problem is, it won't idle so I can set it properly with the timing gun.

Also I am getting a fizzing/sizzling sound coming from the nearside heat exchanger. There is oil dripping onto it but I don't think it is that, sounds like it is inside the exchanger.
