Its always been there on my tintop, its an ex panel so has the slightly higher springs and has very little weight in it, everything looks in good condition but other than shocks origional.
I get a clunk that sounds like the spring if I drive over anything that moves the suspension alot, think it's just one side.

Common or problem?

Took these springs off today and the clunk is it seems the spring and spring seat rusty and they are not sliding nicely.

How much rust do you think is tolerable before springs need replacing Itchy?

Get it replaced. Once it holes through, it'll keep hammering that area until spring works its way through it and you lose the spring. Either buy one already made, or make, or get made a new one. I opted for the latter and used much heavier steel. An arc welder best bet to tag it on.

I was thinking of getting it welded up and then monitor it, it didn't puncture the sheet of packing so it can't be that bad.

I hadn't realised Brickwerks repair part now had the spring recess pressed in so I think you are right Ralph, that's the way to go

I'd enlarge the holes a little to allow more weld. Probably need to spray the area to be welded with plenty of zinc rich primer too. I'm sure there are other recommendations on here regarding the best method to prevention corrosion between the 2 surfaces. I'll leave it to you to do the research and prep then I'll breeze in and do the easy bit for you!
