Bouncy Ride - is it just wind or suspension?

Post by zenecho »

Hello

Im not sure how to describe the problem?

I have recently gone on two long trips involving Dual carriage ways and Motorways, as oppossed to gentle slow short trips to work and the shops, when its not noticable. I seem to have problems with Bufferting (Its a hightop). It seems that the ride has become very spongy and bouncy. Its not a side wind problem, I'm familar with that. The bounce is up and down, not side to side

Im not sure if its just head winds, or a problem with the suspension? ie shock absorber or coils

Any ideas, Where is a good place to start looking?

Shocks are on their way out.

Springs assist to a certain degree but they are primarily for setting height.

Bilstein B4 shocks from Brickwerks, will resolve.

As he said ^^^^^ however, I would add that to a certain extent this is normal for a T3. The affect can be improved with new shock absorbers, steering rack poly bushes and going with lower profile/stiffer walled tyres.

New shocks does make a big difference tho, having gone from a wallowy boat to something like a normal vehicle recently with new shocks (and ARB bushes). My passengers noticed the difference most. I used standard Sachs shocks from BW.

Yup. Standard shocks are good too.

I have looked at the shock absorber on the passenger side looks and it looks shot, looks like its been leaking.

Does any one know the correct size of the bolt and nut on the bottom end of the shock absorbers. I need to go and buy THE correct size hex sockets? - thanks

If I recall correctly it's a 22 mm socket.
