Early to late shift rod.

Post by zxr750 »

Hello,
Please take a look at the image below.
I need to find out if the bracket the early 4 speed shift rod went through is used on the later 5 speed set up?
The bracket in question is above the fuel tank, towards the front.
Thanks.

Hi fella.

Took a pic of mine below.
It doesn't look like the later version has it in my pic.

For clarity, the pic is taken from just under the shift housing.
The view you see is from the front of the van, toward the back, and you can see there is no guide as in your pic.

The only point that the front part of the linkage goes through is where the bushing holds it near the rear of the tank which is the point nearer the rear of the van.

Hope that helps?

Also found this on WIKI.

Looks like Yankiecamper bloke had an extra bracket too:

"yankiecamper: Right peeps! I've done it on the 4-speed linkage there is an extra bracket which my 4 lb lump hammer removed last night! Now its all good, it's as free as a bird . Many thanks. NB. Extra bracket was making it bind.."
