Re: SA front callipers
A-class is only 40.5 tall and drilled to clear 12mm studs:

SA front callipers
def 280mm. This is the one from syncropaddy and he had it fitted briefly.
The part number is correct as well
Compared thickness depth etc as well. The data I provided is correct.
Heritage website says 280mm as well.
Maybe your right and they had two types of yours is 260mm
Cheers

Re: SA front callipers
That would tally with GW offering so-called Gen1 and Gen2 SA brakes.
Maybe worth an ask on syncroSA forum?
ETKA only mentions one part number for all 2.6i without the /W suffix, iirc. Bit of a minefield...

Re: SA front callipers
And iirc Andrew had clearance problems with the caliper fouling the wheel, which couldn't be resolved at the time.
Maybe the 280mm brakes only work with the later SA "Rhein" alloys, but wont clear the early "Starburst" wheels because they were designed for 260mm disc and caliper combo?
Doesnt help find any discs though...

Re: SA front callipers
If you can get the dimensions of your disc I can look it up in the APEC book
Cheers

Re: SA front callipers
Thanks! Basically a 260mm version of these C-class front discs. Height is close enough at 43.5 but would need 15mm drillings of course and a centrebore as per syncro (the same?) There must be something out there!

PS braking surface 50mm wide, plus 10mm clearance to the disc bell

Re: SA front callipers
Now I remember. These are as close as I have found, but might be a bit fat at 24mm. I can open up the holes and the centre bore:

The Volvo 460/480 pads might just be slightly thinner than the F..d fitment Delphi LP587, but I have yet to do a back-to-back check.

Re: SA front callipers
Looks like I will have to go with modded Grandad discs, even if it means milling a mm off the pad friction material to get them in its better than old thin discs.
The Volvo pads look to be the same thickness at ~17mm but a slightly different contour on the material. The backing pad lugs look to be the same shape, but what I removed from the 1995 was identical to the LP 587 i.e. generic 80's F..d
Its possible that VWSA increased the brake size when the 2.6 went to the later (sequential?) efi system known as MP9.
I really should ask on syncro-sa...

Re: SA front callipers
Upon closer inspection, those A-class discs are a better bet than the old Grandad ones for my SA. There is plenty of clearance in the wheel to move the caliper outboard by 3-4mm with some simple spacers and longer bolts
