Cheap Ebay Injectors

Post by 1_eyed_jim »

2 of my injectors have started leaking fuel so started to look for replacements. Genuine ones from VW Heritage are £170 each! Went over to Ebay and saw these at £15 each!

Guessing they arn't genuine! But at that price I'll change all 4!

Too good to be true? Thoughts and opinions please??

Cheap parts  buy cheap buy twice.

How long have the present ones lasted you? Ok genuine have a hefty price tag but you'll probably never have to think about them again - £15 ones you'll probably your luck (I think)

I'm not sure the 'buy cheap, buy twice' always applies when it comes to parts - not in my experience. I wouldn't make my selections wholly on price put it that way. Theres a lot of over-priced stuff around too.

However, I'd definately dig a bit more before I swapped injectors for unknowns to be on the safe side. See if you can glean any feedback from others first.

What it does say (and you can glean from that what you will), is that they are 'genuine intermotor quality'. If they are truly so, then: http://www.standardbrand.com/Intermotor ... ntent.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - widely used in the States from what I can see trawling the net. You just have to figure out if that is indeed the brand. It does state that they are above the list of vehicles they fit - 'Standard Motor Products' and they're shipped from Miami.

These by the look of it: http://www.davesdiscountautoparts.com/c ... ducts/fj18" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Actually, thinking about it, if I had to replace all four at £170 each, I'd sell the van! :rofl

No idea how long they have been on the engine as I have recently fitted the engine into my van second hand. Impressive website and youtube video your google must work better than mine  Am I right in saying the genuine injectors have a green body? Just been out to check and my current injectors have a yellow body which means the genuine ones leaked and where replaced with aftermarket cheap ones but for how long?! :run

Just got four from just campers they do them on an exchange for about £40.00 each and they are Bosch. I sent my old ones first so I didn't have to pay the surcharge.

I'd say those eBay ones are fine. They are new too rather than remanufactured and I only found one comment on the entire internet (on Amazon I think) that was negative about SMP. Clearly they're widely used injectors and trusted in many parts of the world. They've been in business 90 years.

Bosch? yes perhaps but what with the strange modern trend of advertising brands on clothes we buy (I never DID get that one), its easy to get brand-blind. The parts market is more competitive these days and perhaps 10-15 years ago I'd have fitted Bosch batteries and all sorts. Bosch had far fewer competitors. Not now. Unfortunately 60% of the retail price on some items now seems to be for the sheer 'joy' of having the brand sticker on a part when increasingly there are equally good other brands at a significantly lower price. I know because I use them.

As I've always said, for anyone who is not a mechanic in the true sense of the word then it pays to buy parts from a retailer you feel confident with. If you've been around the block a few times, you become more cynical, keep your eyes and ears open, and go for the facts rather than the marketing blurb when it comes to purchases. There are a few 80/90 members that share that viewpoint.

I wince sometimes when I see what some pay for parts but its their money. If it makes them sleep better at night then thats fine. Me, I'd have nightmares about injectors at £170 a go and more than a hunch that I was paying WAY too much.

I'm all for none branded items hence shopping at Aldi :) I've ordered 4 from Ebay for a grand total of £77 delivered from America which is pretty impressive!

Just need to find new seals now which is proving harder than it sounds :/

I will report back after fitting them. Thanks for the replies!
