I've recently bought a van i'm doing a mild resto on, she's been sat for 10 years
The engine however ran like a sewing machine.
I've just changed the oil, and it was very clean, but seemed quite thin to me as it came out
I put in Halfords 20w50 classic mineral oil and changed all the filters etc
Now when I start it I get a tapping noise, at a guess it's a hydraulic tappit that's not happy
Anyone had this? Did I go for the wrong oil? Or am I just hoping that the old oil was wrong and the valve clearances were set to that?

Its will be tappet bleed down. Take it for a couple of miles run. That usually sorts it.

Re: Tapping after oil change
I did leave it overnight before refilling the oil as I had to go out
I can't drive her at the minute as she's not got an mot etc, will it go away idling on the drive do we think?

I don't think leaving it ticking over will do it.

It will have to wait until she goes for an mot then
As long as I know i've not killed it with a simple oil change
