What do you recon Jed, how many vans can we get in their? Had a look at the aerial image and there seems to be a few different areas and a quiet deadend access road.

You will get a good few in their, thing is it should be quiet because of the time of year, it being mid week and lets face it its only going to be campers parked up their at night time.

I did try and get as much information as possible, hopefully it will be of some use.
Just a little bit more now.
FERRIES
Usually you should arrive a minimum of 45mins prior to departure but in busy times arrive 1hr 30min prior to departure.
With the current circumstances I am thinking that we should be all be aiming for a 6.30am arrival in the port - breakfast in the port.

Then on the point of stopping we are in the current mind of driving as far as we can hopefully actually making Mammut in within the day. It is quite feasable the only sticky bit I think is Essen Dortmund area beacause of how built up it is and the tram services they have running through there. Otherwise the route is relatively easy.
It's all the little moments in life that make it a big adventure.

Are you not using the motorway system around Essen / Dortmund?

yeah we are, but just recalling our last visit and we were in the middle! But then we were looking for the new syncro and a place to stop - think we had a fuel issue at some point which made it slightly worse.

Totally agree, better to be too early than a little late.

Is there any benefit getting to Mammut park on the wednesday? I'm assuming were not allowed in to camp untill the thursday?
Just wondering as a half way stop might produce two easy journeys rather than one marathon (nightmare with kids) session, and as we'll all have been up since 6am...

We can always take this as it comes, unless there are enought 'family' vans going that want to arrange a stop over inadvance :?:

The main problem has been trying to find suitable stopping places, although you can probably spend the night in services car parks etc. I think the best plan is to play it by ear.

There is no problem arriving at MammutPark early, you can just pay the extra camping on the gate (€3 per person per night).

If you look at this thread here http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=67373 there is a carpark in a town near Paderborn where you could stay ...

Thanks Jenny, the offer of hospitality is generous, but hes (relatively) rather close to Mammut Park.

I've taken the liberty of approaching these two sites to see if they would have space to accomodate us (from Sharons map).

http://www.ruhrtalblick.de/dauercamping-english.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.camping-hohensyburg.de/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The second one has a large tent area which has electic, that might be the best bet.
Althought these are both just short of 4hrs from Dunkirk, and as Mammut Park is only 5hr45, we should perhaps be looking at an earlier stop.

What do those on the 8am ferry want to do? Do you want to keep going, stop at a proper campsite and pay around 20E or a cheaper service station style option on the road :?:

I quite fancy driving along with the convoy for a while and overnighting on the way so we could explore a village type place that we wouldnt have ever usually have gone to. We will be at the venue for quite a few nights anyway after all so would be good to grab a schnitzel and one of those bug jugs of beer on the way.
