** 25 Years Syncro Event, Germany 30th April 2010 **

Post by HarryMann »

30th April to 3rd May 2010

Mammut Park

Because of this event Syncronauts will probably not be holding a Spring 2010 event, but rather will encourage our members to attend this International event. It would be good to have a strong British/Irish representation.

More details will be appearing here http://www.syncro25years.eu/

and the 25 years Syncro forum will soon be opened up to public registrations.

Greetings all from sunny California. I recently found out about the 25 year event and am truly excited about the prospect of joining in on the fun. I have posted to my local Syncro user group forum on Yahoo and have gotten good results with half dozen interested in joining in too in just a couple of days. I am proposing to ship our rides over to England and drive into Germany to participate in the celebrations. I also would like to do the South Africa trip and the consensus seems to be to celebrate in Germany first, then drive south versus ship to South Africa first and then drive to Germany.
I joined up to find out more what is going on Syncro wise on your side of the world as well as make new friends and maybe get some advise on the upcoming trip to celebrate Syncro's 25th.

Peace
David Halley

Greetings all from sunny California.

David,

Thanks for letting us know your thoughts and plans, the 25YearSyncro organisers were hoping a good USA presence would materialise!
I hope we might be able to help and offer support in some way or other, particularly if you plan to stayover in England before going on to Germany...
I'm not sure anyone here has firmed up their plans yet, other than that a convoy or convoys has been mentioned already

I'd love to be there... so am going to be planning hard....

If there are any convoys heading south from there, then I ought to be able to set up a "bivouac" at our place in central France....

I am also sure anyone from accross the pond that cant afford to ship there vehicle (deep pockets????) we can arrange some rides...

For anyone considering the africa trip found "Africa Overland" by Bradt Guides, authors Sian Pritchard -Jones and Bob Gibbons, ISBN-13 978 1 84162 283 5 seems to be a very informative guide

Just done a quick bit bit of research on this.
Ferry at the moment is £20 max each way, doesn't seem to matter if you are there for 3 days, 5 or 7.
Googled the map and it is 6-7 hours from Calais, obviously according to speed limits, no hold ups etc and not taking into account you are driving in a T3 Syncro!
It's there for the taking now and those that want need to start a bit of a plan.
It's all the little moments in life that make it a big adventure.

just spoken to the wife, and sorted things, rogers plan looks good to us about departing on the thursday, but we dont want to do the 6 or 7 hour drive in one hit (todler on bord)so we will stop over some place about 3 or 4 hours in to the trip and stay there over night and do the rest of the trip on the friday. as for the departing may be leave on the sunday and stop again some place elese and then catch the boat back on the monday.

is some one likaly to step forward and sort out some kind of group booking foe the boat etc? :ok

Looking at the ferry crossings (Dover to Dunquirk - Norfolkline), it doesn't matter at what time we cross, the price at the moment still comes out at £20ish each way.
As for the travelling, ideally looking at the maps if you were to break the trip up into 2 legs a stop over point should be in between Lochristi (Mike Plombens place and Dortmund/Essen) Probaly nearer to Dortmund/Essen though so driving on the Fri would be alot easier.
Not looked at any stopovers etc there yet.
Not sure if now is quite a decent time to post and say what numbers would be interested, but if we could get a relatively approximate figures of those who want to do the trip then maybe we can have a chat with Norfolkine and see if they would be prepared to a block booking.
However, at the moment I must say the prices are pretty competitive so really can't foresee much of a group discount but then we could always try.
