that's what makes a tristar special full caravelle gl style insulation and sound deadening everywhere and then nice carpet and cloth etc...
you need lots of deadening or a big bass unit, I went with the bass unit (only caravlle c bugger all sound deadening and now rubber floormat), and if I want to listen to the tyres/transmission etc... I can do that too

I am going to start a strip out and start sound proofing it from bare interior outwards.

Found some self adhesive bitumen in a builder mechants for £40 for 8m x 1m, so going to purchase a roll and have a go at sticking it on the insdie face of one of my panels and will as usual give feed back, no doubt will cause entertainment to those in the know, but I do not want to be paying several hundred pounds for specialist stuff when I think this will have the same characteristis in relation to deadening the panels.

I have aquired a big roll of carpet insultion and I am going to apply this to panels which do not get wet to prevent moisure retention, eg behind rear seat, in rear seatbox behind dash.

Need to get some rubber for the floors without paying silly money.

going to try and sound deaden the cab for little money and see wat the end result is.

Then I may be able to listen to my stereo on less than volume 8.

Glad I made the exhausts quiet on tick over as this allows me to turn the tunes down for a brief while when stationary.

Need to install a good stereo and speakers as well, went to northwest meet last night and saw a good place to mount door speakers.

Having MDF linings as well should help with deadening me thinks.

Ok, not sure how this will work, but here is a clip of the crewcab on the road as my mate over in France has wanted me to show him what it is all about.

The picture quality and sound quality is not sparkling but at least it shows him what its about..

Just an update on the crewcab as I have not posted on it for ages.

The last purchase was all the soundproofing which is in the cab ready for install.

However, it has been on my fourpost ramp for the last 4 months elevated, covered and dry stored in my lock up. My contract (for working away) has been renewed for another 12 months so it (if it stays in my ownership) will stay up on the 4 post ramp for another 12months.

I have put it up for sale, but to be honest I am not too bothered if it does not sell as it is dry stored and costing me nothing and not losing value etc.

I am on the look out up where I work for some dry storage and if I find something I may rent for a few months ship the crewcab up there and the mini and finish them off at nights. But after I finish them I would be in the same delema again as they would just have to go back into dry storage.

It may just be an ebay job with a reserve and see what happens.

I may go to my lock up later and get it out and photograph it for ebay so may post some pictures later.

Managed to get to my lock up, but as she has been dry stored for past months, she was filthy, took her out, gave her a wash, fitted backbox but it was too dark for a piccie. Will post one soon.

BTW, first turn of key and she fired up a rocked sweetly when loud pedal was blipped. Gosh I am going to miss her when I eventually decide to let her go.

Well I am goint to the lock up tomorrow night to start a finishing the project list.

Even though I am going to be on holiday, the crewcab is being taken to Tatton Park on the 8th of August and sold by one of my mates. I have other projects that need to be undertaken so both of my toys are going. Selling the 67 cooper is going to be a much harder tug as I have owned it for last 20 years. Sob.

So those who are going along, ask my mate and he will fire it up for you and you can hear her purrrr.

Oh yea, I will be filling the rear of the crewcab with everything I have for VWs and that will all go as well.

Well not been on much recently as have been working away and not been down to lock up to even look at crewcab.

However with the pending doom of unemployment it looks like I will be starting work on it again. First thing is to make a list of all the things I have to do on it and start again. Don't think it is going to Tatton, but may take it down to Vanvest depending on whats happening and whats I have to do on it etc.

I know I have loads of bling to fit to it that was purchased and never installed so I suppose these will be the first things to do.

As usual, will keep you updated with news and pictures.

Heres one I am going to ponder about all week as no access to internet during the week but here goes:-

Was at my lock up and looking at the crewcab, and I have now got three senarios:-

mate turns round and says, while dont you pull the cossy motor out as it stands you at 3.5k for just the engine, starter, conversion plate and clutch on its own and throw a 2.5TD engine in out of a landrover we broke earlier on in the year. The engine is a minter and pulls like a train. This would release a lot of capital out of crewcab and changing it back would not be a hard task.

Advantages:-

I could offer someone the full set up ready to install for a wedge of money.

I could sell the crewcab at a lower cost

This would allow me to get most of my costs back in association with the crewcab.

Second senario,

Offer the full running gear up for sale and also offer the full installation on the premise of having their Diesel engine and associated running gear thrown in on the deal so I could throw it in the crewcab, convert it back and again reap money from the sale of the engine and all stuff, Installation and then the crewcab at a lower price with a bog standard donkey in, again getting most of my money back

Or final senario, just take it to Vanfest in October and try and sell it for full cost.

Hmmmm

Decisions Decisions

throw in a 2.5TD landrover lump
won't exactly be a quick thing to do a "new! untested conversion and there are costs in that, just flog the LR stuff to sick LR peeps
if you want to sell it put it ebay the week before vanfest on 10 day listing that finishes on the tuesday and take it to vanfest and take what you can at the w/e or let it finish on ebay
or just keep it and take it to Tatton to show off :ok

Go on admit it, you just want a blast in it again, once you have had a Cosworth, nothing else will do. LOL.

When is Tatton and how much would it cost me to get the crewwy on the lawn with a for sale sign on the window?

Think you should put a reserve on yourself fella, otherwise you may end up only getting 1p for yourself :)

I suppose the question is, should I insure and tax the crewcab to take it to the show or should I trailer it there or should I wait for vanfest.

I have boxes of stuff I could sell as well if I went.

Going to think about it

Dickspanner

Looks like I am out of work at the end of August, so could get it out to play with again after that or do I sell it before.........

Well the crewcab attended Tatton today and drew some crowds, especially each time I fired it up.

But there is a bad side to all this.

It started to smoke through one exhaust pipe on the way down, so I crawled it to the show and left it in the main carpark.

After a while I checked the water and oil and no cross contamination and all levels appeared normal, the oil a touch lower than previous.

Spoke to a very well up man on Fords and he told me that the guide seals may have gone causing oile to leak into the cyclinder when the engine is under load and if the oil level was ok it should be ok to get home slowly.

However, driving it home slowly it broke down on the motorway and had to be recovered. Gutted. :(

A call to the engine builder tomorrow and get him down to look at the problem, this engine has only done 500 miles since it build so this should not have happened. So hopefully get that sorted soon as possible.

The good news is that I got lots of compliments about the truck, even though it was not fully finished.

Photos to follow over the next few weeks showing the problem and resolution etc.

Over all enjoyed the show, resisted buying anything. Met some very nice people and very warm and welcoming to strangers, thanks for the brew this morning D&S and others I met, enjoyed driving in convoy to even even though the troubles started then.

Cheers

Just a quick update.

Looks like the problem with the engine is a electrical faul. A guy is coming round on sunday to plug a laptop in, so fingers crossed it is just a hego sensor which has gone down.

Fingers crossed then she can go to Vanfest.
