Hmm - maybe I chuck the big skyline cooler up front then would look awesome on top of the front bumper - but I was worried about air flow/loss due to the length of the pipework involved. What do you think?

air/air intercooling is a bit of a lost cause wuth a rear engine unless you want to take an air feed off the top of the cab (like a council pickup truck crewwy etc but bigger - hgv?) and duct it through and under the load bed to feed the intercooler. Could look a bit rally raid/WRC but might work. Long pipe runs needed for a front mounted cooler will kill it, no flow and it will take forever to come on boost if at all.
Back to chargecooling maybe? It really only needs a thermostatically controlled electric waterpump, set to around 30 or 40 degrees so it doesn't over-boost when stone cold.

I'm hoping to get mine in fairly quickly - I'm thinking more go less show..
Although I think I'll paint the engine bay and replace the rusty load bed at the same time

Fancy doing another one?
That's soooo tidy

Can you do me a close up pic of the alternator mountings - like which bits to use - I've kept all of the old brackets
What did you clean your engine up with?
I've degreased and steamed mine, but it isn't half as tidy as yours

hey Fin,,, this engine use to have air conditioning pump anchored onto the alternator mount,, so may be different to yours,, these are heavy and cast, others that dont have aircon are alluminuim and light, id prefere a lighter one if i can find one. which do you have?? i basically cleaned block with small detailing wire brushes along with a cuting degreaser/tfr , removable parts ive painted at work in the booth.

Very nice indeed! Details? I'd like the same for my EJ22 now that I've decided it's staying after all (I can fix the random idle fault, I can...)
Dash mods like that would be well recived in the Wiki - let Clive know (HarryMann) :ok

Ok at last some time for a wee update for you all - who might be interested....
I've bought all the bits I need - done the loom - or someone else has :ok

Here's some pikkys of how far we've got.....
This is how she looked before I cooked the old engine
Image
and now that we've got a proper workshop - not just my cold shed, we've decided foolishly to get rid of all the rotten metal
now.....
that's looking up from under the lift - note - roof.... hmmm
Image
We've removed all the rotten bits and popped the rear quarters ready for making scoops for the charge cooler rad and the air intake, which will fit in the left and right rear wings by the light clusters
Image
started making the rear wings and clamped on to see how it'd look
Image
Also I'm widening the rear arches to better accommodate the 10in wide rear wheels - I've gone all Golf Rallye on it as it's easy-ish to do with the new panels and it's of the correct year for a Quattro/Rallye style arch.... Fronts will stay narrow.....

Lots of metal work still to be done - but my welding is getting better..... :D
