Which oil filter for a 1Z conversion

It's been a long time since I changed the oil on our 1Z conversion because it's been SORNed while I took it apart and put it back together again but it's nearly time for it to go back on the road so it's time to do the oil change at last along with a few other things.
The filter is a Mann W940/25 which Brickwerks list for the JX and 1.9td variants. The filter for the 1z according to the VW parts catalogue etc. is supposed to be a W840/2 which is shorter and has a smaller diameter.
So I'm thinking that our 1Z must have the original filter bracket from the JX and so the correct filter is the W940/25? And the W840/2 just wouldn't fit?
Is that right? If someone who knows more than me - not hard - could confirm that would be fantastic.
Also are there any downsides to running a 1Z with a TD filter do you think? The spec on the Mann site seems similar apart from the size?
Thanks!

the bigger filter is probably better with a 55' installation as per the JX as when canted over you are using the JX pump head/pickup so it's a matched system; if you have a vertical or 7'-11' installation then the filter for the 1Z in a car would be fine
maybe ?
I don't do diesel  :)

The W940/25 is the correct filter to use.
