Well it was -5C this morning and had not run the van for a couple of weeks. Started up and let tickover for a few minutes until the temperature gauge was reading 70C (normally sits at 90C) tuned fan on and plenty of heat on 1 and 2 but slight cooling on 3. Left on idle (800 rpm) with no loss of heat but engine temp did not climb to full operating temp.
I did refurbish the heater box with new seals and fan plus new 19mm hoses and metal impellor water pump during rebuild. I don't know how this would be at -20C but for normal South East winter conditions I seem to have no need for an auxiliary pump after all.
Cabin heat, 1.8T conversion, extra pump?
