Hi guys, had anyone on here attempted a 1.8T conversion on their van and have any pictures of the engine mounts, or a build thread?
Just looking at what I will need for a future conversion

Are you converting your air-cooled?

Theres a lot more info on Samba, its been a hot topic for some time now,
no doubt lots of build threads, as well as professional converters and kits.

Russel did mine, but its a syncro and a DOKA so its going to be different.
He is a knowledgeable and helpful chap,
also very reasonable if you might like to have it done for you!

Yeh I will be converting my Aircooled eventually, I can do the work myself but want to know what I'm going to need so I can start getting all the parts together.
I'll have a look for some of the build threads on the samba, I mostly want to see how people have mounted them, if they used diesel engine bars or fabricated something, also what gearbox they have used. Thanks for the reply. By the way how does yours drive with the 1.8t?

Drives well, and brings me joy..
technically its got plenty of torque,
never feels like needing to change gear.
Plenty of power, I dont need that much..
but theres room for extra power if needs,
as I'm told its very easily souped up.

Liked my old 2.2 Subaru a lot too,
and honestly I wish for something as simple as that.
But even though this seems like lots more bits,
as long as it stays reliable I'm happy.

They are supposed to be very reliable,
and cheap to replace too, so win win all round.

One of the more expensive conversions,
but not if you do it yourself..
and probably not as expensive as a Subaru.

I am in the process of fitting a longditudal 1.8t in to my panel van @50. My engine is an early one so I can use the jx sump. On the turbo side I used and epitec tdi mount i had to make the other side mount. I decided to mount my engine on the stock diesle engine bars and use the jx rubber mounts.

Does that mean it sits under the lid,
without raising it?

nope, he's going to have to do a manifold mod, there's a good post on here back in 2016 iirc where the guy made a manifold out of three different ones that allowed it to fit in a 2wd without raising the lid, it was very tidy work

Is there a post anywhere that shows this manifold modification as it's really the only stumbling block for me.

you are lucky I sent the link to someone so that'll save you about an hour of trawling through the old threads, it took me 5 mins to find the email with it in, good job I don't throw anything away, both physically and digitally  :D  I still have all my old hard discs too

Good 1.8T into 2wd thread
