Subaru flood water
Oh dear, my lovely Subaru gl caravelle got flooded last weekend, water was about 9 inch inside submerging transponder, immobiliser and 2/3rds up the ecu, showing immobiliser fault (obviously) dried it all out no joy at all, insurance want to total loss it, insured for 8k (not agreed) or get an independent estimate for repairs bit of a quandary really was going to sell her next year, cracking condition serviced to death etc, any thoughts, recommendations she’s only done about 60k

No suggestions or advice to offer I'm afraid, but I'm really sorry about your van. You must be gutted.

Ecu, transponder and immobiliser are matched sets. Get hold of nick tune on Facebook, he may be able to get you a set. If not, ebay often has sets for sale, just make sure they are all from the same car.
If you get the same ecu etc as your current one it will be plug and play

A few things I would suggest, based upon recent experience:
- if you don’t want to write off the van then make it clear that you don’t want this outcome;
- if you think your insurance company have undervalued your van then make it clear to them what you feel it is worth, that it is therefore likely to be economical to repair, and that this is what you want to do;
- get your van to a T25 friendly garage and get a proper quote from them to fully repair your van, i.e. a replacement engine, etc, etc - you are not obliged to use their repair assessors, and it is worth emphasising that your reason for getting an independent quote is on the basis that it is a classic / specialist vehicle;
- on the basis of the repair quote your insurance company will probably offer either the option of getting it repaired at one of their approved garages, or instead offer to pay a settlement towards the repair cost and you get the repairs done yourself at your own specialist garage.
This is based upon the experience we had a few years back when somebody drove into the side of our parked van - the front corner of their car went in to the side at our B-pillar and was kicked out again by the C-pillar. There was damage to the pillars, about five side panels and the floor was buckled inside.
Our insurance company said our Syncro Westy was only worth £6K and that it was therefore a write-off. We disagreed and got a full repair quote from a T25 specialist. The insurance company didn’t dispute the amount of work that the quote said needed to be done, only the labour cost - their approved repair garages usually give them a discount on labour costs that couldn’t be matched by our garage. In the end they offered us what the repair would cost them to do at an approved garage as a settlement, and we took that towards the cost of getting it repaired.

Hi. I should have a 2.5 single cam ecu, loom etc available shortly. From a 2000 outback manual... if that’s any use??

Thanks, sought a bit of advise about the 2.5 as mine is a 2.0 there could be an overfueling issue, still looking into it and the offer is very much appreciated

Update, she lives, found an old guy who does ecu stuff been doing it since 1984 took him all the stuff Friday pick it up today plugged it all together hey presto, just need to road test it now, not bad for £60
