Donor vehicle

Post by monkeyboysee »

so, i've bought a P reg golf to have the 1y engine transplated across into the van.

Apart from the relays, what else is worth taking from it before it goes to the scrapman?

Anything that you can sell on eBay . Lights, dash, gauges, windows, wheels, exhaust . Anything that looks like it's worth anything.
It all helps to reduce the cost of the transplant. :ok

Not much sells on the mk3 really, I did the same and broke a £400 mk3 CL for it's AAZ. I sold the headlights for £20 each, glovebox handle (common fault for them to break) £15, fuel tank/lines and fuel filter holder (good for mk2 golf TDI conversion) £40, seats and door cards eventually sold for £30 but didn't half get on the way, parcel shelf £10, interior light with plug and a decent length of wiring £10 and central locking pump in foam £20. If it has genuine rubber floor mats they'd probably sell. That's about all I can think of really.

I did get fed up of seeing the bits after a while though and wished I'd just weighed it all in!

if your wings are rust free ( very very doubtful ) and they are original German metal then they could make north of £40 each . I have found the best way to shift gear is a rolling Ebay add , encourage people to collect and then when they arrive talk to them about what's actually wrong / missing / broken and then dump a load more parts . I usually work on very low prices with the view that it all adds up. Depending on your year then your estate rear beam has s wider than standard track for the MK2 boys ....

If you have the black textured bumpers then these are now sought after, likewise estate rear number plate surround. The front splitter will shift quick . Electric window mechs always go but are easily damaged.

I tried to sell bits off my donar Passat recently on eBay. Started bumpers, dash etc 99p no reserve, collection only. Most parts only made 99p so not worth the hassle. Shame really as I'd prefe to recycle, but doesn't seem to be much of a market out there for 90s car parts.
