2.1 efi ?

Could we use this to build an efi for a carbureted and?
Perhaps use the 2.1 efi manifolds and throttle body.
Could the injectors be updated at the same time?

Useful article on the face of it, but TBI is the most basic of EFI systems. Because the injector(s) are still a long way from the valves, there is still a need to have good inlet air velocity to stop the fuel droplets falling out of suspension and so failing to get into the engine i.e the only gain is better fuel metering and improved cold start, but the fuel delivery is still flawed.
Better to drill the inlet manifold to accept injector bosses, in which case why not just use Digifant manifolds and fuel rails?

hiya silver bullet, did you look into the emerald efi system further? we spoke about it on here about a year and a half ago... At that time they were about to fit out the system on one of their own t25's. i haven't chased it up since as funds have been directed into other areas of my van. This thread has just reminded me about them though. I think i will give them a call tomoz.... although running a beetle, a vespa and a passat as well as van means i still don't have the cash to splash.

Never persued it, a whole load of things happened in the intervening time.
I will need something to fuel/manage my project engine but its not a priority until the manifolding/ chargecooling etc is finished.
Cost vs reliability vs ease of tuning & support are the big ones.

That's what I had in mind, using the manifolds from the 2.1 then updating the injectors and ECU.
I have looked at the emerald one and also going to have word with these guys.http://www.specialist-components.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Good to have some feedback as I don't understand the terminology used.

We have a family member who works in automotive R&D for tier 1 suppliers, we talk cars quite a lot at family gatherings!
Throttle bodies are great if you get one choke per inlet (and the injector is in the best position) but there is the increased risk of long-term air leaks with so many throttle spindles.
The bugger with Digifant on a wbx is the slightly angled injectors, which dictates the use of units with a swaged-on hose tail, just to get the fuel rails fitted.
On any other engine they are parallel, so later O-ring injectors and fuel rails can be used.

Am I better off sticking with the dellortto carbs I have fitted then? Would it be better to look at the ignition system?

I have gone right off carbs. 1980's go faster kit c/w the great smell of unburnt petrol? Sell them to someone with a slammed Bay.

With affordable full EMS packages like MS etc there is no excuse not to update a Digifant system:
Sparks arriving at the right time and optimised fuelling for 21st century petrol.
