Money no object ...

Post by dekhelia »

(not to mention time) ... but if you had all the resources you wanted, what motor would you install in a T25/T3?

Personally, I'd put in a Jaguar 5.3l V12. I'd mount it amidships, and raise the floor in the back of the van to accommodate it.

What would you do?

Ford 289 (the Ford GT40 V8 engine) again midships. But with a usable interior wrapped around it!

But realistically I would go for a petrol that runs lpg fits in the existing hole and cruises happily at 75 but could pull the pants of a nun and get 40-50 mpg.

I suppose for an Aircooled van a Porsche 917 motor would be ideal...

There was an AMAZING Porsche wasserboxer powered T25 parked at the end of the 80-90 lot at Oswestry earlier this year, dark blue iirc.

Good choice, though the remap would likely bring the mpg's down :)

I wonder if anyone has done this yet - I know someone who is running a Polo tdi (not sure which one) in a hot rod.

If money was no object it would have to be a current generation of tdi, no idea which would be most suitable, but it would be nice to know that i'm sorted for spares and servicing for the next couple of decades :)

A work colleague with the same car regularly gets well into the 60's... my boss has questioned me before, I just shrug and say I must do more town work... I dont pay the fuel bill so dont care too much !

With a remap you generally get better MPG, they retune the engine map to smooth out all the rough edges in fuel delivery, and with the improved torque and BHP comes improved MPG its like win win win !

The 2 litre 170 BHP engine remapped to around 215-220 BHP would be a great choice...but, the trouble with modern common rail Diesels is that they aren't as bullet proof as the older PD diesels.

Second that. Massive instant torque from 0rpm. I would have a 4wd one for good measure.

TNT were trialling "Smith" prototype 7.5 tonners round here a couple of years ago. No problems with the 415v batteries or motors, just stupid things like no cab heating...which they could easily have connected from the motor cooling system, according to the driver!
