Desperate help needed with my VW Polo!

Post by D&DCAMPA »

Ive got a 2002 1.9 diesel polo which has been running great for last year and a half but 4 weeks ago the fan belt came off as tensioner had snapped. Tensioner replaced and new fan belt fitted.
new fan belt shredded within 2 days, 2nd belt lasted 20 mins before shredding! you can see when you put the belt on how it appears to be 'wearing a groove' approx 1/3 of the way in. mechanic now shaking his head and wondering where to go next and in the meantime im using the camper which has its own 'cutting out' problem!
I was wondering if anyone else had come across this problem? As a single female Im not very mechanically minded and ive been searching on the internet as to what we can try first.
ANY help will be most welcome! and Thank you in advance!!

sound like the belts not running in line. correct belt? correct tensoner? water pump pulley not excessive play ? belt routed right
