1y identification
I have a 1900 1y conversion in my van and want to do a belt change on it.
Unfortunately I don’t know the source of the engine. I’m looking at serial combi at the t4 1900 belts and they have 1991-1994 & 1994-2003. Is there a way of easily identifying which engine I have to ensure I’m buying the right parts?
Thanks

Re: 1y identification
Is this the cam belt or auxiliaries belt (or both) that you want to change?
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Re: 1y identification
Both. I have the ribbed belt as the aux belt, not the v belt.

Re: 1y identification
Both belts should have part numbers on which will help ID. I'd presume all 1Y cambelts are the same?
As far as auxiliary stuff, you could have ended up with any combination of stuff so realistically reading the "6pk775" type number off the belt is gonna be the only way to be sure.

Re: 1y identification
For the ribbed belt, you could cut the old one and measure its length. The belt you need will be an X PK Y where X is the number of ribs and Y is it's length in mm.
For the cam belt kit, you can look up the list of vehicles fitted with a 1Y engine, and order the kit for one of those.
Any motor parts factor will sort these out for you. They like a reg number, but you can explain that your vehicle has a replacement engine so that won't work.

Thanks,
I’ve taken the aux belt off, unfortunately the numbers are so worn it’s unreadable. I’ll pop into my local friendly autofactors and have a chat. I’m pretty sure the guy I bought it off said it was from a golf, but he said a lot of stuff…

Re: 1y identification
If it is anything like the 5-cyl, early ones used a trapezoidal tooth profile and later used a (quieter) half-round/sinusoidal tooth form.
They are different lengths and you need the matching coolant pump/tensioner.

The 1Y setup is very different...
Water pump is run off the aux belt, not the cam belt as in the 5 pot.

Same as JX AAZ etc , there’s really only 2 belt set ups, you can measure the ribbed belt for a replacement
Have you got a picture of your cambelt and tensioner on the engine ?
