I got a pair of used flaps for £20. It was the first thing I ever got.
Though my arches aren't the best so I self tappered them as I didn't have the clips (which no doubt rust and fall off anyway)

Re: Late Exhaust Backbox - flow direction?
Doesn't the late system need the back box supports which the early engine mounting bracket doesn't have the necessary flanges for fitting them to?

Re: yet another hesitant misbehaving engine
It is almost impossible to diagnose a cure for an issue like hesitation. most of us trot out the usual suspects. If the OP has done some basic work...sometimes the scatter gun answer gets lucky. How does rotor arm wear cause hesitation? It was more like it was 'missing' or as ghost says 'flat spots...

Also
Just an update that the engine is no longer a hesitating one. As suggested, an I suspected, it was electrical and changing the rotor arm has solved the problem. Though the broken pulldown is making morning starts a bit rough on petrol but LPG is fine with it.

I cannot guarantee the heritage picture is right as they get their units from the same place............classickevtherev wrote:OK
I see that
I bought a BW one and presumed it came inside the pipe from VW

Re: yet another hesitant misbehaving engine
As I suspected the restrictor is part of the unit and is supposed to be pushed into the inlet port on the pulldown unit. Mine was and you can see it on the images of a vag pulldown unit on the heritage website (the gold end on the inlet) http://api.vwheritage.com/_img/products/169562/E9866235-9B01-4...

Re: yet another hesitant misbehaving engine
Looking at itchys pic I think (I hope) my restrictor is stuck on the pull down unit inlet when I removed the pipe
Would I be right in assuming a new unit comes with a restrictor? I ask because ETOS doesn't list a part number for the restrictor

Re: yet another hesitant misbehaving engine
Kev. You mention a restrictor in the pipe running from the pulldown unit to the car but there's nothing inside my pipe. Not that I can see anyway. And Etos lists the pipe as a generic 3.5mm hose with an N number with no mention of a restrictor Could it be the restrictor was stuck on the unit and I j...

Re: yet another hesitant misbehaving engine
I took the air intake off when the engine was warm and pushed down the flap. It went all the way down and made a "parp" sound which I assume means the pull-down unit isn't working due to a tear in the diaphragm? http://youtu.be/9D5KnfkRFmE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return ...

Re: yet another hesitant misbehaving engine
Found this in a manual. I assume this test is on a warm engine with the flap fully open?
