Re: Tyre size for carat wheels
Hi there can anyone tell me what tyre size fits genuine 14'' carat alloys? Are 185r14c the correct fitment? Any advice much appreciated Regards Keith http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=92678&p=7678035&hilit=carat+tyre+size#p7678035" onclick="window.open(this.href...

Re: Mystery alloys
As they're 6"X14" and ET39 they'll need 6mm-10mm spacers plus longer rear studs and front bolts(or stud conversion) to match the standard T3 Carat 6"X14" ET30 alloy set up. They 'may' be able to be fitted without spacers...they'll just sit 9mm further in towards the suspension. T...

Re: Solving the body roll on a westy hightop
Wrong section Pete but lowering by 40-50mm with quality lowering springs(not red and from ebay!)and quality shockers will improve the handling greatly. Check out the Brickwerks website for tried and tested quality lowering springs and shockers. Do not under any circumstances buy such items from a co...

Re: Mystery alloys
If...and I mean if...they're AZEV(not the best of photos so I can't say for sure)...all the wheel details including size,ET etc will be either under the centre cap or stamped into the back of the wheels..

Not those in the photo for starters!
I doubt they're load rated and the tyres are too small and definitely not load rated!

Re: Lowering and Wide Wheels
reading the 80-90 Wiki earlier with regards to alloys and offset, very informative and well worth a read http://wiki.club8090.co.uk/index.php/Wheels_and_tyres_-_Alternative_wheels" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; True as regards reading but not when it comes to the informati...

Re: Lowering and Wide Wheels
It's hard to tell without knowing the offset of the wheels. The front has a fair amount of room. The rears are more likely going to be the ones to cause issues. Yes regarding the offset but no regarding the 'room' front and rear. The rear of a T3 can cope with a lower offset and wider wheels than t...

Re: what other vw has my automatic gearbox ?
I don't see why not, audi auto boxes of the same era as our vans are the same. I think you are forgetting a vital fact Rob.....and I can't believe it's taken while now for me to point it out... There's no such thing as a rear engined automatic Audi! :D Even if...and I mean if...an automatic gearbox ...

Cheers for that Paul...it may be a good idea for him to fill in his location then to save any future confusion?
But then again that could be too much trouble as he was logged onto the forum earlier and read these replies but thought it's not worth replying to them....

Or... Front: 225/50/17's are just 0.77%(5mm) larger than 185/80/14's and are 98(750kgs) load rated. Rear: 245/45/17's are the same diameter as 185/80/14's and are 99(775kgs) load rated. 255/45/17's are just 1.38%(9mm) larger than 185/80/14's and are 98(750kgs) load rated. 245/50/17's are 3.83%(25mm)...

Re: 205 70 tyres
i believe the original fitting for a multivan like mine was a 97 load rating. Yes 25+ years ago when there was very little tyre choice in 205/70/14's for a Multivan....Semperit and Michelin are the only 2 that spring to mind. In the very same handbook VW also stated to use leaded petrol in the 2.1W...

Re: 205 70 tyres
There seem to be plenty with a load rating of 95 but our vans need 98+ Incorrect. The maximum axle weight of a T3 is 1300kgs so the tyres, and wheels, need be load rated to at least 650kgs each....and 95 load rated tyres are 690kgs. TyreTraders have a few 95+ load rated 205/70/14 tyres as well.........

Re: Are 15" alloys off a Passat any use?
Simple really....
Leave well alone because they are the wrong offset(ET),the centre bore is too small and they are not load rated for a van that can weigh 2.5 ton!!
