If the lights come on and nowt happens when you turn the key then it maybe the plug on the bottom Of the Ignition it was on mine

Headlight failure So straight to the earth crowns, fuses, relays etc. Lots of scrabbling around. Nothing. And the problem was? Both bulbs gone at the same time.  Pah! No you don't have to drain it just swap it as quick as you can how much water comes out depends on how quick you do it 😉

temperature shouldn't be a issue as far as I'm aware I was thinking bad earth if you have some jump leads try Connect it to the battery terminal earth lead and to Somewhere on the engine and then try to turn it over

When he jump started it did he put the jump leads on the battery terminals or did he put one on the live terminal and the earth on the engine

Do you have two wires to the senor if so test the earth wire is OK first
