Re: Big wheels
I'm fitting 205/70 r16s to mine soon. 5.6 inch sidewall. Waiting for the tyres to come in the post... 27.3 inches diameter compared to around 25 inches on my current worn 185 r14c tyres. I have a 1.9d AEF engine and I have a 5 speed gearbox. Main reason for changing it to be able to cruise on the fl...

Re: Oversize tyres on standard rims
I've gone for 16 inch ET33 merc alloys.
205/70 r16 tyres - 27.3 inch diameter.
No spacers, just longer studs on the rear and conversion studs on the front.

Re: Oversize tyres on standard rims
Just wondering is there a better selection of tyres available for 15s or 16s and which rim size should I go for? I'm looking at either 195 75 r16 or 195 80 r15 to give a 10% increase in gearing for my 1.9d. Pretty sure I can find toliman alloys in 15s or 16s. Would probably just go for winter tyres ...

Re: CS to JX possible?
My current wheels are 25 inches diameter which equates to 185 75 r14. Here is the comparison to 195 75 r16 at 27.5 inches diameter which I think is the biggest you could go... not a massive difference really in speeds? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180318/722587d37a7a1afe9b7f534ace1df150.jpg ht...

Colin what tyres are you running? I've just bought some 16 inch toliman alloys...thinking about 195 75 r16s...

Re: CS to JX possible?
I agree with everything said so far. AEF or 1Y is the way to go. And when you can, 10% longer gearing by bigger wheels or gearbox mods will produce more leisurely cruising. Be very careful to have a properly sealed air inlet tract to keep your new engine quiet. I'm lovin' my AEF :) Mine is verry no...

I gently grit blasted mine and sprayed epoxy primer. That stuff is never coming off!

Re: CS to JX possible?
I have the 1.9aef from a 1999 Polo.
Looking forward to fitting bigger wheels now so I can go faster at lower revs.

Re: Engine bay sound deadening
Most tend to lean towards sound deadening inside partly because of limited access (ideally with gearbox out) and the hassle of cleaning and treating the surface you intend to bond to. I'm not convinced its worth the effort to be honest. I agree but as the box is out and it's all cleaned back an pai...

https://clearcutconversions.co.uk/product/camper-table-rail-set/ This company will cut their table to any size you require. Lots of colour combos. Comes with excellent edging strip, mounting bar and leg. I took the side panel off and riveted a 50mm steel strip between the b & c pillars, added s...

I can't decide between the sequoia table leg and the sliding rail type.....
Sequoia would be more stable I'm guessing and you can choose size and shape of yoir table. Sliding rail handy if you had your drivers seat on a swivel...

Yes a hoist makes it all a lot easier. I did all of mine on my own using a hoist.

Re: Fuel Gauge Issues
Thanks CovKid. Yeah the 10v regulator thingy? Is it possible however for this to effect only the fuel gauge operation as my temp gauge is working fine. I was always under the impression that if this part was bad it would affect both the temp and fuel gauges??? The 10v regulator powers both the fuel...

Re: 1.6 d to 1.9 d install help required in midlands
The storm wasn't too bad where I am so there wasn't much damage done, just a good few small trees knocked down.
The AEF is still going well. I'd like to try some bigger wheels to help lower rhe revs at cruising speed.
