Re: Starter Motor Rebuild

Cheers Stesaw, I just googled the Petrol Starters and that makes sense. The Petrol starters don't have the housing you mentioned that the Diesel one's do.

I think I'm going to have fun if i need to remove the bearings to get at it. Might as well change the bearings too if I do that! :rofl

Starter Motor Rebuild

I've been rebuilding one of my starter motors recently. I changed the Brushes and cleaned the insides, but forgot to change the Bush(es). So that was today's job. I was led to believe that there was a Bush in the Bell Housing, as well as at the end of the starter. But when I looked inside the bell h...

Re: Coolant Change without running Engine?

Just in case this helps anyone, with the thermostat housing removed I simply stuck a hose down the left coolant line/pipe leading to the radiator.

Water flowed through the radiator and out of the engine via the exit by the thermostat housing. No more murky old coolant :D

Re: water pump removal

I had to do this a few months ago on a diesel. I believe there are 3 bolts that have to be removed, I could only get to 2 of them without removing the the fuel pump. Because of the angle, I ended up rounding the head of the 3rd bolt too. If you can change a cambelt, removing the fuel pump isn't that...

Coolant Change without running Engine?

I'm hoping to flush as much old coolant out and refill the system this weekend. I've been driving my neighbour up the wall recently so I want to try and do it without running the engine if possible? :D It's 1.9 N/A Diesel. I have experience topping up and bleeding the system, but I've never done a c...

Re: Old (KY) Injection Pump on 1Y Engine

Cheers for your input, Aidan. I do want to send of the 1Y pump off to be rebuilt. If anyone has any reccomendations, let me know! Seems pretty expensive!

For now i've attached it like this:

Just about to torque it to spec!

Old (KY) Injection Pump on 1Y Engine

Just swapping over an old (working) injection pump onto my 1Y. Was going well until i noticed the non working pump had threads to bolt straight to the engine, the old (working pump) doesn't have threads! I had a look at the old engine (KY), and it has a big bracket that goes in the cambelt area with...

Re: Diesel Pump Pulley Removal

Cheers stesaw, I managed to get it off today.

I didn't have access to a puller, but I managed to get an old screwdriver on the otherside of the pulley. 10 or 15 knocks with a hammer and it came off.

On very tight!

Diesel Pump Pulley Removal

Anyone have any advice on removing the injection pump pulley? Have i missed anything? The pump moves freely, all bolts have been removed, but I can't seem to pry this pulley off? I've tried penetrating fluid and a crow bar! https://images2.imgbox.com/3d/a4/ZX1lk9DB_o.jpg https://images2.imgbox.com/7...

I do have 5mm spacers on the front to allow clearance of the tyre walls on the wishbone

They sound like some pretty big tyres for a 16x7 wheel on a T3! I bet the ride is pretty nice if it fits though.

Thanks slowcoach, that's a great help. I didn't think 215/65/16 would fit. I may give those a go :ok

Re: Mercedes 16" Alloys, Which Tyres?

Wow, i wonder if you can get away with bigger AT tyres on a smaller rim? Brickwerks says 215mm is the biggest for 6.5" rims: http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/tyre-size-for-rim-width_topic60146.html The alloys are probably measured from the inner part? The tyre isn't going to go past the walls/...

Re: Mercedes 16" Alloys, Which Tyres?

Thank you Bat, very nice camper by the way. Syncro's are beautiful.

235 sounds a bit too wide for 16x7" Alloys? You may have 16x7.5"s or 16x8"s.

Appreciate your input though.

Re: Mercedes 16" Alloys, Which Tyres?

No one?

I'm considering 215/60/16 all round now? Apparently 225/55/16 is pushing it slightly for a 7" rim.

Mercedes 16" Alloys, Which Tyres?

This post may annoy a few people, but here i go (again!). I've basically mounted some 7x16, 5x112 Mercedes Alloys on my van (they have an ET of 37, but I have all the spacers, studs, bolts etc. from brickwerks sorted). :ok The tyres on the alloys are knackered, and the load rating isn't great, so i'...
