I have the same problem with my Carthago Camper. The regular Propane/Butane Calor Gas bottles are too wide by about 1cm each side. Even the smaller calor tanks are still too wide (same width as the 6kg tanks, just shorter). I've resorted to buying 2 Camping Gaz canisters & replacing one as it ru...

Re: Re Am I unique

does it still look like that or have alterations (wanted and unwanted) taken place. Do you have one or two water tanks underneath, does your liesure battery charge up when you are hooked up to the mains. No alterations yet, it's just the only pic I've got of it right now. I've not had much time to ...

Re: Am I unique

By the way whats that horrible rattly noise in the back when you start the thing up. I find that's usually the wife complaining about the cupboard latch & gas heater I haven't fixed! I have a Carthago Camper. 1985 1.6TD (4 speed LHD). My engine's certainly not new though! Regular pop-top. Previ...

Tin-Top Vans are great for multi purpose use, but my Father-In-Law, Mick, doesn't half suffer with his back after hunching around in his van for a couple of nights. He wanted to install a Pop-Top, but doesn't want to do away with his Air-Con ducts (they run down the length of his roof). My Pop-Top i...

Just noticed this post. Count me in as interested if it's a straightforward "fit - fill - drive" installation job.

I think I've got a better picture of what's required now: For a reasonably straightforward swap, find a 1.9 petrol gearbox - change over the imput shaft & bell housing. Otherwise, that chart was also a help as well. I'll use that to see if I can find any other compatible boxes. My Father-In-Law ...

Right, so it's the diff that's important. I see. I'm afraid my Van doesn't have a rev counter on it (hmm... Did all TD vans have rev counters?). I just go by the sound of the engine. It sounds OK up to 90-95kph (60mph). Once I hit the 100kph mark the engine sounds like it wants to go into 5th gear (...

Aha! So swapping out the gearbox would make a difference! That's it, I'll save up & find a compatible 5-speed gearbox. Thanks for that. I'd rather get a new gearbox for the existing 1.6TD engine as it really does still have some poke left in it. I'm not that into acceleration (Christ, I drive a ...

Can I improve my Top Speed?

Any advice would be appreciated on this.. I have a 1/2 decent Type25 Carthago Camper from Holland. It's a 1985 1.6TD (Left-hand drive) with 4-speed gearbox. An unknown history, but the Van seems straight enough for it's age. The engine seems to be a sound & reliable runner. After throwing a bott...

I believe for it to be a legal seat belt (I've only gathered this) the seat belt must be bolted by it's usual fittings to the chassis or main body of the vehicle. Therefore as long as you're welding a mount to a strong part of the Van, bodywork-wise, then I think you've cracked it. Before I discover...

I managed to fit a 3-point rear seat belt to my '85 Carthago Camper. It had factory mountings, which made life easier as I didn't have to get any welding done. I bought the seat belt from Just Campers, no extra extenders required. You get a full set of instructions included in the pack. Although the...
