Re: Side light flashes when indicator should
When you get this effect on the tail lights it is easier to explain. However, I suspect the same is happening at the front. The rear lamp groups each share a common earth. If this is bad, and you apply voltage to the indicator lamp it cannot flow immediately to ground. Instead, it will flow into the...

Re: Cab Door Adjustment
As above, I have made & used packing plates at the hinges to adjust the height of the rear of the door.
I have found that the sag of the door can be due to cracking, distortion & separation of the numerous panels which form the front end and hinge mounts of the door.

Re: Leisure battery/electric problems
quote: What voltage should the leisure battery read when flat/charging? With the engine running and after a short journey, the leisure battery should read about 14 volts. The engine battery should be the same. After switching off and allowing maybe an hour to let things settle you should see about 1...

Re: Syncro engine swap - DJ to AGG
Patrick, if this hose persists in being unavailable you might consider getting the later equivalent hose (for the TD engine with the coolant pump) and cutting & splicing that into the small hose on the intake side of the pump (ie- delete the pump). If the number of conversions taking place is an...

Re: New Clutch for JX
Dave, I am running the standard JX clutch with my AGG GTi engine. It has done over six years without issues. It only got changed last spring as the engine was out and Aidan rebuilt the gearbox - would have been silly to put the old clutch back in. Even then, it was still working fine and had plenty ...

Re: Syncro engine swap - DJ to AGG
Had a look at the engine and there is a temperature sensor in the flange at the end of the cylinder head. Memory failing again!
I think it may be the one for the dash temp gauge.

Re: Syncro engine swap - DJ to AGG
Patrick, The first of these (the alloy one) appears to be for the earlier, non-turbo, diesel engine and fits on the side of the cylinder head (between cylinders 2 & 3?). The second, plastic, flange is listed for the later TD engine and fits at the (flywheel) end of the cylinder head. However, I ...

Re: Syncro engine swap - DJ to AGG
I think that your first hose is the one I have shown in two tones of blue on the above diagram and the end you ask about is intended to connect to the electric pump. Without a pump, it should connect to the second port on the oil cooler/heat exchanger. There is a different version of the hose to do ...

Patrick, take a look at the GTi conversion Facebook page and a document I posted to show the hose routes. https://lookaside.fbsbx.com/file/2017-03-06%20VW%20T3%20AGG%20Coolant%20Hose%20Layout.pdf?token=AWyuDDABcFEozciR-HYC1Up-e1Bbqa-UirJ_zP1I6EsZSwB_4PbI2nrIG7AovsF3mWzhnPf_iqgjdZY88Bb7lEmZTz8Nbs1AUf...

Dick, I have recently posted a document on the GTi conversion facebook page at https://lookaside.fbsbx.com/file/2017-03-06%20VW%20T3%20AGG%20Coolant%20Hose%20Layout.pdf?token=AWyXFjFReoRcRdXGr0_17Q0x5qUF9u1t8t7Y7YS21NscSJfXA5_pCjxFN6qQ2JPMEfBTPdN_O9Zaex64NrjC_ideouvITaeQ8MRr20_g0ImWhdnjIliZ2WrWqKW48...

Re: Hex bit for wishbone bolt?
Its moving around badly so no idea if the bolt or washers are in the right place any more, I noticed a clonk When you tighten this bolt, note that the recommended torque is 75Nm - that's 'very tight' to you and me and difficult to achieve in the small space behind the wheel. Much less than that and...

Re: Replacing the dashboard plastic PCB
Early in this thread 'Midlifecrisis' posted a very clear diagram of the wiring for his 'petrol/no clock' dash. Does anyone know of a similar drawing for the late TD dash with rev counter and digital clock? If no-one has posted one, I shall carry on trying to work it out for myself. Hopefully this wi...

Re: Deadlocks
Shaun, a couple of ideas I have toyed with. Firstly, one I installed. This used rack bolts rather like the type sold for adding to wooden domestic doors where you poke in a spline key and rotate it several turns to drive out a rod type latch between the door and pillar. The ones I got used a tubular...

Re: Brake failure/fade
If your brakes (& brake fluid) have got so hot as to cause the very soft pedal, I suggest that you need to be completely replacing the fluid. Possibly it is as old as the retaining clips?

I think that Propex themselves offer a service/refurb service. I believe they are in the Portsmouth area.
