Re: Custom conversion

Nice. I like it when people modify things to fit their own personal needs, obviously works for you.
Although I love the idea of a big sunroof, I'd like it to be opening as well. Could you not have just mounted it in the pop top instead, and had the best of both worlds? Purely a practical question.

Re: New seats

Interesting stuff, thanks for the post. I would love to see how to do it as well, something for the Wiki perhaps? I would like to change to some nicer seats, but I don't fancy the Saab ones I've seen and they weigh just over a metric ton each. Would be good to have a guide to what seats fit in quite...

Re: 1.9 to 2.1

Cleaning the heads up and I have found cracks between the 3 lots of the valves. Not huge but definitely there. I've seen threads on here where they talk about cracking between valves on diesel heads, but does anyone know if this means the heads should be looked at a bit more closely? In the pic you ...

Re: 1.9 to 2.1

Yes those are the ones I have ordered. I'm a bit worried about the height compared to using type 3 short ones, but we will see how they pan out. The jetting for the 40's is talked about on the Samba.com, it should give a rough guide before it is set up properly on the dyno. When it is I shall report...

Re: 1.9 to 2.1

Even if you are using hydraulic lifters? Or do you have to go to solid when using ratio? I was only going to go for the 1.25 at most. I do remember seeing someone talk about using them some time ago, but I can't find it again. It may well have been on a different forum I guess. Can I ask about compa...

Re: 1.9 to 2.1

I must admit being attracted in a strange way to the JB weld method, just sounds right, if very low budget. Almost chav :) I'm getting a 3 angle valve job anyway, so no problems in that area. Just been looking at ratio rockers on CSP, but it doesn't actually mention the WBX, it seems to all be for t...

Re: 1.9 to 2.1

OK, saga in full swing now, and I don't mean a coach trip full of sexually active consenting pensioners, I mean the rebuild of a 2.1 to replace my old unit. Having got the heads off I have found them to be quite pitted on the very bottom face, that mates to the water jacket. Chambers themselves seem...

Re: Not another insulation question!!

I've just finished doing exactly the same. I used spray adhesive for the foil, the best is the stuff for sticking car carpets down from megavanmats - http://www.megavanmats.com/adhesives.htm but I also used some from Focus (NOT vinyl adhesive, again CARPET adhesive) which worked well enough. Took ju...

Re: laying a new floor

I just did mine with click and fit laminate flooring from Focus, one pack was just enough as the edges on the far side are covered with the cabinets and the seat, so the slight shortfall doesn't show. Means no fiddly cutting as well. I used the silver foil over bubble wrap type insulation underneath...

Re: First question - Backfire

Just thought I would post the answer, which was that the vacuum pipes were slightly loose. Very slightly, a bit of a clean and pressing firmly and the problem disappeared. Cool.

Thanks for the help.

Re: 1.9 to 2.1

I know what you are saying, but I'd like to go a bit further with the search for more power. So unless there is so little gain from a 2 carb setup that it really wouldn't be worth it, I'd like to try it. I'm definitely thinking about gearing, but as I still have to find my choice of wheel/tyre I'll ...

Re: 1.9 to 2.1

Right. Whether right or wrong, I've sourced a 2.1 and now will need to know what I might expect to encounter when going from a DF to this. I talked to the guy at Elite and he advised against changing from the DF, said it does fine and although I respect his advise and too a degree can see what he is...

Re: 1.9 to 2.1

OK after talking to a few people it all becomes a little muddier, as is expected I guess. For those of you who have made the change, could you tell me what difference you have actually noticed, percieved or factual? 1. Have you noticed the difference in horespower from a 1.9 to a 2.1? 2. Do you thin...
