Re: Golf Mk4
Its still just a 115HP, 170Nm @2400rpm four pot. Barely adequate for a heavy van other than a slightly better torque spread compared to a DJ and pulls from 1500rpm. I'd go for a 150hp 20vt swap if I was shopping for a low maintenance conversion, which won't kick the shizzle out of the transaxle in f...

2.0 8v in a Golf Mk4 Gti, this one was V reg iirc. The engine was fitted to a T3 and converted to auto using FAS parts from the USA. Not a cheap conversion but a complete kit is available.

Re: Rev counter
You won't blow a healthy DG with excessive revs, I have sent one to 7k+ with no ill effects when the throttle cable iced up in a hard winter.
The hard bit is knowing if you have a healthy one.

Re: Engine number confusion
Vege registered in Tunisia for tax purposes? I maybe should have said European folk culture to satisfy the pedants, but historically the low countries share many roots and ideas going back millennia. Borders move around but myths and beliefs have no boundaries

Re: Distributor drive removal issue, 1990 DG
If everything is clean and you engine isnt coked up with oxidized oil, you should be able to lift out the drive spindle using a strong magnet. Be gentle when lifting it (it needs to be tickled out) because the two thrust washers that support the spindle usually stick to it and they do not clear the ...

Re: Engine number confusion
Hares figure heavily in German folklore, in fact that applies to a lot of European mythology but also features in ancient Chinese and Japanese beliefs.
I still say its a leaping hare with its ears trailing.

Cohline every time. I had some new EV14 injectors come supplied with Gates Barricade tails and it was awful looking stuff made in Mexico, wasn't even circular in section!

Engine hatch seal, glue failure
New seal from BW, seemed to be good quality crepe foam. Fitted it last summer with evostik contact adhesive, taped it in place, locked the hatch down and left it for weeks to settle (same technique usen on cab door seals and they are ok) Hatch seal has now come off while installing the engine, brush...

So this is the end for this engine build topic. Its as complete as it can be, the last few crankcase vent hose details will be done once installed in the syncro, which has its own topic.

Sorry to disappoint but I mothballed the whole thing some time ago and moved on with my life. The recipient bus has been sold so now its just parts and potential for someone with the skills and time to make it work.
