Re: Gearbox oil

Definitely GL4 and I did run this past Aidan at the time but that was early 2014 and views and what is available may have changed.I am more concerned about the "semi-synthetic". Hopefully our gearbox guru will chime in and put me right. :ok

Re: Gearbox oil

When my Syncro gearbox and front diff were rebuilt I bought Comma SX75W-90 GL-4 semi synthetic on recommendation from Eurocarparts. As I am just about to start running should I leave this in or drain and replace or just use as a breakin for the first 500 miles then change? :?:

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

Try Aluminium Warehouse online but collect from Hatfield as delivery charges are very high. This will be expensive but you may be lucky searching the bay.

Re: 1986 syncro Caravelle twin slider

I know the feeling well. My fair condition low milage van quickly became beyond my abilities when I started digging into all the usual hidden areas. Luckily there is a first class restorer close by who has helped me with the seemingly endless list of all things Syncro that need doing. Not too far to...

Re: VW Sharan petrol - electrical ghosts! Rapid response req'd

Our *W* reg Galaxy had similar gremlins and was traced to loom and module under the carpet beneath drivers seat. It was swimming in water from blocked sunroof drain.I believe on the Sharan this is located under the passenger seat or footwell. Good luck.

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

Sorry I should have qualified that a bit better. My flywheel is modified to fit the 1.8T and the standard 2.1 WBX clutch assemblyis a perfect fit and is what I have fitted at the moment to see if it's up to the job. I started with the VR6 as the complete assembly was less than £40.00 from Darkside D...

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

The VR6 friction plate fits nicely but the pressure plate PCD is about 5mm out so you would need to drill and tap to suit ( or it was on mine). Darkside developments are worth looking at.

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

Now for the geek bit. At full chat if the air mass flow is 15Kg/m then at 14.7:1 the fuel flow would be 1.02Kg/m. Depending on the fuel grade the latent heat of vaporization is 628Kj/Kg and this works out at roughly 10.5Kw of cooling all based at atmospheric pressure as dealing with fuel pressure ov...

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

Hi Ian, well this confirms the previous ball park calculations. At 15000 rpm the power absorbed is 25Kw/33.5 Hp at 92% efficiency ( quite amazing). For an inlet temperature of 20C the discharge or outlet will be 108C so still looking around 18 to 20 Kw of cooling at peak power to keep below the noti...
